Core Web Vitals: The 3 digits Google uses to judge your website

You have a beautiful design, strong copy, and your SEO keywords are in the right place. Yet you aren't climbing the search results. How is that possible? The answer likely lies with the Core Web Vitals.

Since 2021, Google evaluates websites not only based on content but, above all, on how the user experiences the site. At Mediawax, we optimize every site based on these three crucial metrics. We explain what they mean without technical jargon.

1. LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) – "How quickly do I see something?"

LCP measures loading speed. Specifically, Google looks at how long it takes for the largest element on your page (usually a large image or a text block) to become fully visible.

The standard: Your LCP should appear within 2.5 seconds.

The culprit: Often, this is unoptimized images or a slow server. At Mediawax, we solve this with lightning-fast hosting and modern image formats such as WebP.

2. FID (First Input Delay) – "How fast can I do something?"

FID measures interactivity. Imagine this: you click a button or a link, but nothing happens because the browser is still busy loading heavy scripts in the background. That is fatal to your user experience.

The standard: A good FID is less than 100 milliseconds.

The culprit: Too many heavy JavaScript files. We "slim down" your website's code so that it responds instantly to every click.

Note: Google is replacing FID in 2024 with INP (Interaction to Next Paint), an even stricter measurement of overall response speed.

3. CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) – "How stable is the visuals?"

Nothing is more annoying than a website where the text jumps the moment you want to click, because an image or advertisement is suddenly loaded at the top. We call this visual stability. The standard: A score lower than 0.1.

The culprit: Images without specified dimensions. We ensure that the browser knows exactly how much space to reserve, so your site is rock solid.

Why are these numbers so important?

Google operates on a simple principle: a happy visitor is a good visitor.

How does your website score?

The Core Web Vitals are not a one-time check, but a continuous process. Google measures this using real user data (the Chrome User Experience Report).

At Mediawax, we build websites that are optimized for these scores from the very first line of code. We make the technology work for you, so you can focus on your customers.
